Branch Easter Social and VOS Cheque Presentation

Gosport Submariners Association held their first Easter Social at the RNA club on Wednesday 1st April. This was aimed at building on the successful Christmas and Summer Socials that have become part of our calendar.

The Vice Chairman started by welcoming the guests and promised to keep the formal part of the evening as short as possible so we could get on with the fun stuff. After raising a tot to birthday members, the VC had the honour to present a cheque for £1800 to Andrew Dutton, Ops Manager of last year’s Chairman’s Charity, Veterans Outreach Support. Andrew declared himself as a former submariner and our membership sec, George, managed to relieve him of £10 membership fee by the end of the evening!!

We then had the raffle (nice bottle of sherry thanks!) and an impromptu auction of an original piece of art, kindly donated by the artist and member Dave Tomkins. This added to the other generous donations to this year’s Chairman’s Charity made during the collection.

Next was a break to visit the excellent buffet and to allow members to charge their glasses before the main event of the evening.

The VC then introduced our very special guest, International Comedian and star of the Comedy Store London, Mr Sean Collins (www.seancollinscomedy.com). Sean gave an excellent set and he was a great success. A very nice and very funny chap. He gave up his time for us and we were extremely grateful. The VC wrapped up proceedings by thanking our guest and presenting him with a gift from the Association. He thanked the social sec team and the committee. And most importantly, He thanked the members and their guest for making a great success of our first of many Easter Social functions.
